The Society presents three prizes to art students studying at Wolverhampton University. The 2019 graduation awards included Edward Kemshell, a fine art painter. Ed describes his practice as,
Exploring the language of painting and the act of painting with the intention of making strong visual statements using the fundamental elements created purely from the paint itself and my internal drive…..My painting practice reflects the excitement I feel in not knowing the outcome at the beginning of the process……What started out to be something about me becomes something different, it becomes open to the viewer.
Ed has come full circle from that 2019 award and after moving on into becoming a practising painter he has now joined the Society as a member.
There is a twofold aspect connected with Ed’s new membership of the Society. Firstly, it is good to see that those picked by the Society for their excellent practice whilst studying at Wolverhampton University Arts Faculty go on to develop their skills as artists. The second aspect is that it demonstrates how worthwhile it is that the Society continues to support artists at all levels but particularly when they are studying art at university.
