The University of Wolverhampton celebrated its Class of 2022 graduation recently in September.
On behalf the Wolverhampton Society of Artists our President Keith Oram was delighted to present the Jarvis Awards to three graduates who have been recognised for their outstanding works created during their time studying at the University’s School of Art.
The prizes consisted of a relevant reference book and a cash amount presented to each of the following students:-
Gracie Gajsler (Figurative Art)
Krista Warklate (Ceramics)
Kate Hughes (Textiles).
Kate Hughes is the daughter of Patricia Jones who also studied at the Wolverhampton School of Art and was a former Member of the WSA.
On learning this we arranged for Kate to meet Margaret Jarvis, our Life Honorary Member after whom the Prize is named and who helped to initiate a rekindling of close relationships with the University. They spent a wonderful afternoon together talking all things ‘textile’.
The Society’s links with the University go back a one hundred years and this story exemplifies the links that still exist.
The WSA looks forward to further developing the connections to enhance the membership base.
